HOME RULE FOR IRELAND
A SPEECH BY MR. BIRRELL, WORD TO ULSTER PEOPLE. By Telegraph.— Association.— Copyright. (Received February 24, 12.5 a.m.) London, February 23. Speaking to his constituents at Bristol, Mr. Birrell, Chief Secretary for Ireland, said that the Prime Minister, Mr. Asquith, would introduce the Home Rule Bill.
The Protestants of Ulster were quite right in saying they would fight for their religion and property, but there was no great occasion to begin drilling immediately. If, added the Minister, their property was despoiled they would find the whole forces of the Empire and the unimpaired supremacy of the Imperial Parliament behind them.-
IRISH VERDICT AT EASTER. DUBLIN NATIONAL MEETING. (Received February 23. 9.40 p.m.) London', February 23. The Irish Nationalists anticipate that the Home Rule Bill will be introduced before Easter, so as to enable the National Convention to be held in Dublin to discuss the Bill during the Easter vacation.
