CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

.The annual general meeting of the members of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce will bo held in the rooms of the Chamber, on Thursday next. The meeting will be preceded by the usual luncheon, which will be provided by the Chamber' in its hall, at one o'clock. • * The annual report of the council, which, will be presented to the members at the meeting, states that during the year 16 new members have joined the Chamber, ■ but through death, resignation, and other causes, a like number of names have been removed from the roll, leaving the membership as at last year, viz., 347. The finances of the Chamber are in; a very satisfactory' condition, the surplus for the year, ( being £207, of which £100 has been paid in reduction of the mortgage on the freehold premises (which now amounts to £600), the balance being carried forward.; Reference is made to the lectures delivered during the year by Professor Segar and Dr. H. Dean Bamford, to i the' attention devoted by the Chamber to various public matters, including the lights on the Northern coast, the Sydney-Auckland and coastal steamer services, the extended river limits, the Parneli railway tunnel, the conference of employers and employees regarding the shortage of labour, the recommendation to the Government to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into industrial conditions, representations in regard to Parliamentary Bills, the proposed Exhibition, and the annual dinner held in June last. ■ ;■ - 5 The members of . the council who will retire by rotation, but who . offer themselves for re-election, are Messrs.
