STRIKERS RELY ON MINERS.

With regard to the Brisbane strike, the Employers' Federation claims that it has ample labour available for transport work, including shipping. Negotiations are proceeding for importing a large supply of Japanese coal at an early date. The- employers in the timber trade have declined to confer with the men. Sydney, February 22. The Strike Committee at Brisbane has advised its representative in Sydney that no coal is available for the Queensland railways, and that wood is being utilised. The committee Las instructed him to proceed the South Coast mining districts and arrange that no coal be shipped to Brisbane. The representative adds that he is officially advised that "Newcastle is all right," meaning that no coal will be sent to Queensland from there. NON-BADGE WEARERS ABUSED. ARBITRATION COURT EVIDENCE. Melbourne. February 22. In the tramways case before the Federal Arbitration Court, witnesses from tho Adelaide and Melbourne tramway services te's-. tificd that they had been subjected to abuse because they had not worn badges. ' The president of the Court, Mr. Justice Higgins, stated that he thought, he saw a way of settlement, and a conference wag arranged. The Court adjourned. ' i'i '■ ■ ;j, STRIKERS DISAPPOINTED. (Received February 2?, 11.40 p.m.) .; 7::\ :; Brisbane, February 22. The strikers are much disappointed, owing to a report from Melbourne that the compulsory tramway conference has proved abortive. ANOTHER STEAMER HUNG UP. (Received February 23. 12.45 a.m.) : Sydney, February 22. The wharf labourers . hung up the Adelaide Company's steamer Mai-lob,' which arrived from Brisbane, declaring that the cargo had been handled by non-unionists.
