a pathetic: CASE. An inquest concerning the death of Robert Stevenson, whose body was found lying on the rocks near the Domain Baths in Sydney, brought to light some sad; features. Stevenson was an immigrant, who came to Australia from England last October by the Demosthenes. He was 50 years old, and left a wife and child in England*; He was unable to get work at his trade, of furniture-making in Sydney, and be-: came despondent. .i . • : A notebook that was found in his pocket contained some entries, from which ib was evident that he had been worrying on account of not having received a letter from his wife for some time. He had had practically nothing to eat for four days before his death, and had been sleeping in the domain for a week. One entry, in the notebook .ad : — "Dead tired ; my feet have given way ; can hardly stand ; must give up. No letter from anyone, not a word to cheer. My head is very bad again. Good-bye, everyone." , A verdict of suicide was returned.
