MINING NEWS.

THE GYMPIE GOLDFIELD.

The gold output at Gympie (Queensland) for 1911 was 62,4060z, as compared with 70,6940z in 1910, the decrease amounting to 8288oz. This total is the smallest since 1891, when it was 60,7140z. In 1910.. 139,198 tons were treated, and last year 136,846 tons; thus in the former year the yield per ton was just over lOdwt, and last year it fell to a little over 9dwt, Up to the close of last year the Gympio field had produced 3,713,604 crude oz of gold of the approximate value of thirteen millions sterling ! There is still a good deal of prospecting work being carried out on the field, for calls amounted to £45,560, which is lower than for any 12 months for many years. It should be stated, says an Australian exchange, that the greatest output of gold for 12 months was in 1903, when 176,3690z were won. The smallest was in 1879—38,4530z. The total yearly dividends fluctuate in accordance with the gold yield, and 1903 stands out as the period that gave the best results to shareholders, who received £318,858. The dividends last year amounted to £48,441 and the calls to £45,560, which is bringing the expenditure unpleasantly close to the income.
