THERE was a good attendance of the public at lie concluding events of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Championship Meeting, held under the ' control _of the Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association, at the municipal tepid baths this evening. M. E. Champion (Auckland) won the 440 yds, and put up a New Zealand record of sm. 48 4-ss. The result was received with continuous cheering, as was also the announcement that this made the 22nd New Zealand championship won by Champion, in addition to others, outside of the Dominion, notably the English lons-distance championship. THE YALDHURST SHIELD. The points for the Yaldhurst shield are as follows:— Auckland 51 Canterbury 20 Wellington 6 Hawke'e Day ■;. 1 Otago 1 DUNCAN MEMORIAL SHIELD. For the Duncan Memorial Shield the points scored were as follows:— East Christenurch 14 Sydenham Vi • ('pawn. 7 Richmond 1 Christchurch 1 The following are tho results of the championship events:— 440YD8 CHAMPIONSHIP OF NEW ZEALAND. When half the distance had been covered, Welson was leading with Seymour, Newman, and McQuillan following in tho order given, which was maintained unaltered, for the remainder of the distance. Won by about 20yds, Newman being about 20yds behind Seymour. Wclson's time was sm. 53 '1-t;?.. ami Seymour's tin. 13 2-55., both gaining standards. Newman's time was 6m. 32 2-ss.

When half the distance was completed Champion was in the lead, with Schwartz and Jerred behind, and this position a? maintained till the end. Champion winning by about 14yds, and Jerred being about 18yds behind Schwartz. Champion's time was sm. 57 3-55., and i Schwartz's 6m. 7 2-55., both securing standards. Jerred's time was 6ni. 21s. The Pnnsonhy Swimming and Life-saving Club will hold its lourtli carnival of the season in the Albert-street baths this evening. A good programme has been arranged, and as the entries are numerous the carnival should be very successful. The principal event is a race for the 50yds championship of the club. Eight of the best sprinters in the club have entered for this, and it should be very interesting. ' There are also a 36yds handicap, lor which 35 swimmers have entered, and a 216 yds handicap, with 19 entries. A 50y(is handicap race for ladies should be well contested. The programme also includes a Ponsonby public schools' j relay race, a novice handicap, and a boys' race. The first race will start at eight p.m.
