Washington, February 21. Strong opposition is developing to proposals made before a House of Representatives Committee favouring the admission free to the American registry of foreign-built ships owned by American citizens.
A return to discriminatory duties, favouring American vessels, also a tonnage tax, is urged on behalf of American shipbuilders.
