G. Riddel!, \ S.M., to-day, to two charges of having', ill-treated two horses. Mr. A. B. Atkinson appeared for $» Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to.'' Animals, and characterised the case as a"".; very bad one. He stated that on January 20 last Inspector Seed noticed FeUiaglwp* driving a pair of burses. He examined/ one of the animals, and found it in a very bad condition. Three of it* ka .' were practically useless, and there were signs that the animal had been severely :' .thrashed. Subsequently the annual ::ytu", examined by a veterinary surgeon, who re-, ; ported that it- was quite unfit' for'work.'/ Jt was then destroyed. Later on Inßpedoi ■'■ J Seed visited Fellingham's farm, and -found another horse in a similar condition.: .It 'J. also appeared to have been flogged. : Counsel remarked that the case was one of systematic cruelty, and he accordingly j pressed for a heavy penalty on each.cbarge.
