CIVIL SERVANTS RETIRING. [BT TKuEGRAPH.-—PBES3 ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. The Civil Service is losing an unusually large number of its high officers this year. The general manager of railways (Mr. T. Ronayno) will exercise his right of retirement upon superannuation. He has been thirty-six years in the service, his first position on the New Zealand railways having been charge of the HelensviUe branch. His present position carries a salary of £1250 per annum. He is entitled to a retiring allowance of £800 per annum.
Another prominent officer of the Railway Department, Mr, A. L. Beattie, has announced "his intention of retiring shortly. Ho obtained his. experience in railway engineering in England, and entered the New Zealand railway service thirty-four years ago in Otago. In 1896 he became chief mechanical engineer, an important position, carrying a salary of £900 per annum. Mr Beattie will be entitled to a superannuation allowance of £500 per annum.
At the request of the Government, Mr, Kensington (Under-Secretary for Lands) will not retire until March 31, when he will be granted three months' leave of absence.
Mr. Waldegrave also retires on that date with three months' leave.
