SWIMMING.
NOTES AND COMMENTS. The 100 yds provincial championship >»! Canterbury was contested last week. It was. won by W. Cookson, in 65 2-ss.' This is record time for Canterbury. It is 2 2-ss. slower than C;-Br ice's Now Zealand record. The event of the week in Auckland swimming circles is, of course, the visit of tho Sydney Club's team. As the inter-club contest* will not finish until this afternoon, when the. visitors will make their third and last public appearance in Auckland, in tho carniva' ro bo held at the Graving Dock, it is too early to comment more than briefly upon ihe visitors' form- So far they have been seen, only in fresh water, whereas they are accustomed to salt water. So they will nor, jo seen in; the most favourable conditio! ,s until this afternoon. •",'*' ' . • Suttee it to say that, despite the absence of the Sydney Club's best all-round man, thei .<uu is a, strong on»,_ although most of th - men are sprinters. , .Next to Hardwick, i.,. Boardman, who is captain of the visiting tfam,' is the best. distance swimm; ; "n . th© Sydney Club.
