YACHTING. . ROYAL NEW ZEALAND YACHT SQUADRON. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron will hold an ocean race to-day, over a course starting between the mark boat and the outer western tee of Queen-street Wharf, thence round Canoe Rock, thence round White Rock to the southward of tho island of -Motu Kawao, off Cabbage Bay, then to Mateatea direct, a distance of 75 knots. The race will start, at nine a.m.. Handicaps are. as follow:Rawene, scratch; Marangi, 18m.; Victory, 20m.; Waione, 30m.; Ngatira, 36m.; Aorere, 50in.; Kotiri, 50m. The crew of Mr. Ernest Davis's yawl Matangi left on Friday evening of last week for Kawau, Bon Accord Harbour being reached at nine p.m. It was the intention of the crew to see the regatta on Monday, and Kawau was loft at five a.m.. A splendid breeze was met with till Tiri was reached, when a flat calm was experienced for hours. The moorings were picked up about seven p.m. on Monday.. VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB. The Victoria Cruising Club will hold its open championships for 16ft open boats, 20ft, 22i't, and 24ft mullet-boats to-day. The championship race for 26ft mullet-boats will be hold on a date.to be announced later, as it has been postponed owing to several of that class competing in the re-sailed anniversary regatta races to-day. there will he a sweepstake for the 16ft open boats, and the 22ft. mullet-boats. Feltham'a yacht Little Jim returned on last Monday afternoon from a cruise, which extended over a fortnight. Nearly every part of the Great Barrier was visited, and tho crew had a most enjoyable time.

The yacht Queenic arrived on Tuesday afternoon from Whangarei. The northern port was loft on Saturday evening, and Sunday and Monday were spent at Kawau. Tho yacht anchored off the Iris wharf about 4-30 p.m. The 24ft mullet boat Gannet, which has been hauled up since May on Queen's Parade and which has recently changed hands, was launched on Sunday morning. She has 'been anchored off Garden Terrace.' .

The' 26ft mullet boat Arawa spent the week end and Monday at Clevcdon, getting a friendly tow up the river frcjm a local launch. ,

Sunday was a great day for launching. The Kowhai, which had been hauled tip since last winter, was put in the water at the Devonport, Wharf. : The Mei. Merlin, and several others were also launched.

The keel yacht Alcxa left Devonport on Saturday afternoon and visited Cowe's Bay (Waihcke), Commanded etc., returning to the moorings on Monday afternoon. , Several of the yachts took advantage of the holiday falling on Monday and went ft r extended cruises to Kawau, \Vaiwora, etc. Tho open boat Sho has been thoroughly repaired .by her builders, Messrs. Harvey and Lang- She took part in the regatta on Monday last. •- The North Shore Yacht Club's annual picnic will take place to-day at Kohimarama. That of the Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club will be held at Whakowai Bay. : '■ Mr. H. M. Burgess, of Judge's "Bay, reports business as very brisk. He is fitting an ; 18-h.p. three-cycle Automatic origin© into Mr. H. Short's launch at Onehunga, and lias got a launch 30ft overall, 7ft 3in beam, and 2ft 3in draught for Mr. Hemus. The latter boat will be fitted with a 12-h.p. Automatic engine, and will be ready in &• couple of weeks, The keel is laid down for M< tsrs.
