The Chamber has approved the Government's Bill to try strikers by. court-martial, in batches of 2j, without preliminary inquiry or right of appeal, except to a supreme courtmartial. ' -• When the Bill was read, Machade Santos exclaimed, "Just like one of Jose Franco's decrees The Chronicle's Lisbon correspondent states that there are hundreds of political prisoners herded in dungeons 45ft below the ground. They are fed on mouldy bread, and water not fit to drink. Typhoid is common. None of the prisoners have been sentenced. They include many priests, barristers, landowners, and officers.
