Of the four' Maori districts on the East ' Coast, only one carried prohibition as the ' : result of the poll taken on December 19 ~' t last. According to the Gazette pub- •' " lished last evening the figures for the districts were Takitimu, for liquor 659, , against 236; Horoutu, 444, 551; Arawa, ' 487, 179; Wairoa, 250, 128. ''■■ A petition is to be lodged against the validity of the Horoutu poll (the «district where prohibition was carried) on the "ground that the poll was not. taken in ! strict accordance with the law. Messrs. '.' Chapman, Skerrett, Wylie, and Tripp are acting for the petitioners.
