TE AWAMUTU. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The' annual meeting of ! the' Town Band took place on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance of members and supporters of the band. The president, Mr. W. F. • Stewart, presided. : - The report stated that the predominant feeling is one of keen appreciation of the handsome manner in which the band has been supported by the residents of the town! At the first call, on the inception of the band 12 , months ago, the; required amount (£100) .was'" subscribed in a few days. Since then a further"£loo ',. i principally by . means of an art union and concert, has been raised. The year closed with assets to the value of 'and' a credit balance of £82 15s 3d. New uniforms are now on order. The members appreciated very much the support . received from the' Town Board and Domain Board in erecting a bandroom and band rotunda. Several old and well-tried players have joined the ranks, and already the players are looking forward to qualifying for some of the minor, contents in the near future. Within the next year or so they hope to be in a position to acquire a set of new instruments, all by the same maker, at a cost of something like £300. Mr. Stewart was unanimously re-elected president and Mr. Blyth secretary. The eleci lion of : a conductor was held over for one month. A vote .of , appreciation was ac-» corded to Mr. Moeller for past services. A meeting of : the Chamber of Commerce | took place on, Thursday evening last. There was a good attendance- of members, pre' sided over by Mr. Geo. M. A. Abler. The Justice Department wrote in reply saying that the matter of appointment of two more local . justices would receive consideration when further appointments to the commission 'are being made.
