COUNTRY SEWS.

TE KUITI. [from our own correspondent.] _Te Ktjixi, Monday. At Kiokio last week a highly successful entertainment, under the auspices of the Fanners' Union,' was held in the Puketarata school, having for its object the commencement of p. fund for the establishment of a public hall in the district. There were a. largo number of settlers present, and a splendid programme ' was gone through. As an instance of the bad weather being experienced a settler in the Pio Pio district has been two weeks trying to shear 300 sheep, and has not finished yet. This time last year all tho shearing in that part of the district was finished,' and the greater part of the wool on its way to the market. The weather is having the effect of keeping tho roads in a very bad state. • DRURY. [from ottr own correspondent.] At the request of a number of .friends Mr. J. Flanagan gave a lecture on his recent tjriu round the world on ,Friday evening. There was a largo and appreciative audience.

CAMBRIDGE. [from ottr own correspondent.] Cambridge, Monday.

A meeting of those interested in the fcuitable reception and entertainment of the students attending the conference, which is to be held in Cambridge, this Christmas took place on Friday. There were present: Messrs. Brooks (voted to the chair), Tudehope, R'chaj'ds, Lewis, Hammond, Reid, Willis, jun., Marshall, Hopkirk, Veale, Macky, and Revs. Gow, Tinsley, and Spottiswood. The following programme was arranged:— December 29, garden party and reception by the Mayor and {he president, of the Y.M.C-A., at the residence of the latter; Saturday, 30th, tennis, and match with the local tennis club Monday, January 1, drives into the country and a picnic Tues day, 2nd, trip to Mungakawa. The mornings and evenings will be devoted exclusively to the important proceedings of the conference, but the afternoons will be available for recreation.

HAMILTON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORIVESPONDENT. ] Hamilton, Monday. . At the Baptist Church yesterday Pastor .7. D. Mill referred to the departure of Mr. A. Rushbrook, who leaves during the week for England to take up work in South Africa under Dr. Karl Kumm. At the annual school concert at Te Kowhai on the breaking-up of the school a very excellent programme by the children, arranged by Mr. Gillespie and Miss Barton, was presented. Afterwards a dance was held. 'The annual school picnic will be held on Wednesday next. Friends and supporters of Mr. A. Bell at Te Rapa have' arranged to tender him a social next month. The bazaar at Frankton Junction in aid of the boy scouts, which was held from Wednesday to Saturday last week, was most successful, and a substantial amount will probably be added to the building fund. Very enjoy, *le entertainments were given each evening. \ . WAIHI. [M TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Monday. Mies Haszard was married on Saturday afternoon to Major A. T. Kenrick (manager of the local branch of the Bank' of New Zealand). The service, which was fully choral, was conducted by the Rev. G. Wells . Smailes, of St. John's : Anglican Church. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, and the bride was attended by Miss H. Hogwood as ' bridesmaid, while the bride-' . groom was supported by Mr. Chas. Walker ' (solicitor)," of Auckland. " After the " cere-; mony the bridal party and guests were entertained at the residence of Mr. arid' Mrs; • Fen Haszard.
