An alarm of fire was given in Hamilton shortly after 8.30 o'clock this evening. The outbreak was at Mr. Shepherd's household stores in Victoria-street. The adjoining premises were occupied by Mr. G. E. Hill, and the Singer Sewing Machine Company, and at the back was a store containing a quantity of furniture packed in boxes, and belonging to Mr. Georgetti. 1 When the fire was discovered, it had a good hold, but the brigade was quickly on the scene, and did excellent work, confining the fire to the one building., The furniture was, nevertheless, considerably damaged.
