It is impossible to upset the sound principle that a judge who is personally interested in a case is not a fit and proper person to sit in judgment on that case. And, on that very same principle, a man cannected with monopolies and combinesliquor, land, trams, gas, meat, coal, etc.—his interests in which are necessarily diametrically opposed to the best interests of the public, is not a fit and proper poison to represent. the people in Parliament, where ho will bo called upon to choose between hi* own private interests as a monopolist and his duty to the publio.
