THE RAILWAYMEN'S BALLOT.
STRJf&E VERDICT EXPECTED. (Received December 4, 10.15 p.m.) London, December 4. Preliminary reports of the trades union railwaymen's ballot indicate that the majority will reject the Railway Commissioner's report, and will recommend a stoppage, of work. The men at Bradford and Sheffield are almost unanimously against the report. Stratford and East London have protested against the action of the executive of the railwaymen's unions in agreeing to a conference. Similar protests have been made at Sheffield.
ULTIMATUM FROM CARTERS. (Received December 4, 10.15 p.m.) London, December 4. Two thousand carters at Liverpool have given notice that they will strike on December 9 unless their revised demands are fully conceded. WORK RESUMED AT SWANSEA. (Received December 4, 10.15 p.m.) London, December 4. The strike of 4000 " Swansea dockers, who left work when the Houlder liner Valhalla arrived in port with men aboard for loading her, ceased on the Valhalla leaving Swansea. " Work has been resumed.
