AUCKLAND CLUB. The third trial fours of the season for trophies presented by Mr. 1!. Birch, net down for Saturday afternoon, had to be postponed on account Of the rough water and boisterious weather. As several other members desire to enter for th* trials now they arc postponed, the crews will be ropioked. and the committee will announce the date* of the trials early next week. ' Entries for the Club's trial four crews to com-, pete at the Auckland Association's gala on December 16 will he received until to-morrow. The stump trials for December 9 have been postponed, and in their place the club will hold pair-oar trials. Entries for these will close to-morrow. NORTH SHORE CLUB. The opening: day of the North Shore Rowing Olub was postponed, probably till next Saturday. However, the members assembled indulged in subscription trials. The first heat provided a great raoe between E. Tanslov's crew and that stroked by L. Spinley, the latter winning by three-quarters of a length. . The crows In the second heat were stroked by T. Duffy and K. Flvnn, who fought out the issue to the gunshot, 'K. Flynn winning by half 0 length. Tho third heat was won by G. Reagar's crew, beating R. Spinley's four by two lengths, after having a mutual rerace owing to a foul. The final was raced in lumpy water, end eventuated in a win for 0. Sengar's otew, L, Spinley being second. The race was on interesting one, and looked a probable win for Spinley. but his coxswain lost the chances of winning by steering too close to a launch, thereby allowing Seagar's crew' to win on the post by a length. The winning crew was composed of 0. Soagar (stroke), A. Powley. B. Johnston, P. Jack, .and P. Goldwater (cox). Mr. P. W. McLean, president, officiated as judge. The club entries for the association's gala on the 16th inst. will close at the clubhouse to-night, at eight o'clock. All members are requested to enter, so as to make the day a success. WEST END CLUB. Tho West End Rowing Club held double-scull trials on Saturday afternoon for trophies donated by Mr. H. Schmidt (vice-president;. The afternoon was wet, and there was a heavy bwell over tho course, making it hard work for the various crews. Thirteen crows competed in sis heats, one round, a semi-final, ana a final, with the following result*: — Hmu : G. Keano and Glasson beat Bigelow and Robinson, Dunning and Knox beat Davidson and C. Massey, H. Rowe and Piper boat lilakey and L, Ross, Hunter and G. Smith beat A. Oarlaw and Dawes. W. Matte? and 0. Massey boat A. Hartley and L. Ross, J. Stewart and Dawes beat Cole and Sheppard. All these heats were fairly easy victories for the winning crews, with tho exception of Stewart's and Cole's crews in the sixth heat, which race resulted In a hard battle, ; Stewart- making a splendid effort at the finish, j and winning by a counle of lengths. I First. Round: W. Massey and C. Massey beat ; H. Rowo and Piper, B. Parker and 11. Bell beat ! Punning and Knox, G. Keano and Glasson beat ! Stewart and Dawes. / ■ Semi-final: A. Hunter and G. Smith beat E. : Parker and H. Bell, W. Massey and C. Massey | beat Kcane and Glasson. i Final: In tho final between A. Hunter and G. ; Smith and W. Mamcj* and C. Massey, the former *orew- proved too strong, and won ■ easily. Mr. J. Clark acted as starter, and Mr. R. WAITEMATA CLUB. The Waitcmata Club opened Its srason with a i series of trial fours, for trophies donated by the ■ committee. Nine crews competed in three beat» ' and a final. The racing was excellent, although : there were - several new members amongst the crews. The results were:— First Heat; Wolfgramm 1, Davy 2, Cairns 3. Wolfgramm made a good spurt, and won by lets than a length. Second Heat: Huddlestone 1, Andrews 2, Hadfleld 3. This also was an excellent race. Hadfield was handicapped through having to round a timber dam, but he threw out a good challenge. nuddlestone won by about three-quarters of a length; - Hadficld finished about a length behind Andrews, The third heat was won by Bell, with something to spare, with Herring second and Westray third. In tho final the crews got away well together. About half-way Bell went to the front, and won by a length from Huddlestone, with Wolfgromm third. The winning crew consisted of Bell (stroke), Steele, Robson, and Molesworth. THAMES OLUB. [BT TBUrORAPH —OWS COBRBSPOKBEST.] Thames, Sunday. Tho opening of the Thames Rowing Club's season was celebrated on Saturday afternoon by a gathering of members and friends at the club's shed, Parawai. under unfavourable weather conditions. Notwithstanding the unfavourable state of tho weather, a number of members took part In the proceedings, which consisted of a variety of impromptu events. These were well contested and create! keen interest. The general enthusiasm shown indicates that more interest will be taken in this branch of sport during the present season than ha* been tho case for same years past. ""■.";•';
