AN EXTRAORDINARY DOCUMENT.
Sir, Amongst * the election literature left; at my house is a leaflet inviting me to vote for Sir John Findlay. ' V This is a most extraordinary document, and purports to give 12 reasons why i. should vote for the Ward Government. From the 12 I select three—(l) The Government introduced " one man one vote " ■ in New Zealand. . (2) Gave, women the franchise, (i) Old age pensions. Sir Job ; : .-;'Findlay.' knows, or ; ought to know, thai the "one man one vote" was introduced by Sir John Hall, woman's suffrage also by Sir John Hall, and that the old age pensions scheme was really originated 'by Sir Harry Atkinson. | Surely the new knight and his party are I indeed in dire straits when they dare to I claim credit for the deeds of better : men. • It has been well Raid by a groat author that ; " Men march ; forward to' the : doing of great deeds, beckoned onward by shadows of the great ones gone before," but the great deeds so freely promised by the reject of the South aro not likely to be done by a party that has lost every scrap of political decency and is prepared to promise any and everything to catch the vote of the unwary elector. v . The extraordinary leaflet previously referred to concludes "Electors of Parcel], do not be, ungrateful." Well, we have at least one reason for gratitude—a candidate rejected by the capital city, lifted to the Legis--1 lativo Council; by the political patronage which disgraces the Dominion, condescends to take a house in our electorate for a few weeks, and to beg us to do him the favour , of electing him—' declined with thanks." j Paexell Eleotob.
