THE DEMAND FOR LAND.

BALLOT FOR 17,732 ACRES.

APPLICANTS NUMBER 450.

Seventy-onb allotments of Crown land, in the Auckland district, comprising 17,732 acres, have just been allocated by ballot among 450 applicants. There was no demand lor a number of the sections offered, and these: remain open' for allotment on application. •

Prior to the ballot, tho prospective settlers were examined by the Land Board, which rejected a largo number on the ground that they were not landless. Others who had not complied with the formalities wero also excluded from the ballot. Renewable Lease Lands. The tenure of the majority of the sections allotted was the renewable lease.
