THE GRAND JUNCTION MINE.
_Sir,—The, progress of the S.E. crosscut at No. 6 level has been followed with intense : § .interest by shareholders in -the - company. Questions being eagerly asked are: "What | has the crosscut shown, and are the result* f satisfactory or otherwise?" Your, we'll- | informed Waihi correspondent will no,dou**t 1 review tho position, but in the meantime 'si * few facts ■ and figures, all of which v.« i. taken from official reports and which I not . | reproduce, will enlighten the veriest i-iz in these matters, and enable a comparison to be made between tho actual results met with in the crosscuts through .be Empire lode at Nos. 5 and 6 levels. No. 5 " level , crosscut from ; the shaft exposed, at 96ft ''south',' quartz, 22in of which was worth £2 15s 8d per- ton. 'At 133 ft tba Empire hangingwall was encountered.. Pro- ' ceeding, the -next'3oft was low grade, followed by a width of 3ft of ore worth £l 1& 6d, and then 9ift of low value wa&r-Mc- !i ceoded by 17, ft of ore worth £3 6s per loa. .. It will therefore be seen that tho Xo. 5 level crosscut exposed a total width of<eOj[- , of" good payable ore *in the Empire-lode. ■At No.*6 level the.,S.K: crosscut at M Y,"H from the shaft intersected a reef Bft wide | (Dominion: lode) worth £2 Ms : per ton; at 69ft an ore body 10ft in width, worth £3 2- - ! 3d at 109 ft another shoot, the first of' ■ which assayed £2 7s 9d; then again at 138 ft ■ milling ore for a width of 9ft was penetrated, followed by yet another shoot worth £3 6s 9d per ton for a width of 7lt - \ Your Waihi correspondent, in touch with I I official:data,.surmises that the reef met at ; 69ft south is identical with the' quartz inter- I sected in the level above (ait 96ft south), but this is a doubtful conclusion to draw and it \ appears to be more- probable that'this reef > ] represents* the jhangingwallsid© of the Era- ■ pire, and , that mineralised ore of high grafla. has displaced the poor zone encountered at [ No. 5 level. In any case each of the shot/*'. - I encountered is of sufficient width to,permit" I independent economical working even; if'they, don't unit© going east.' . '- I The Nq. 6 level . crosscut exposes „ width of 22ft of high grade ore and 9ft of mill-, ing ore in the zone of the Empire lode, plus a width of Bft of «jood grade ore in the Dominion lodea reef practically unknown oa No. 5 level. This 2\o. 6 level crosscut-has therefore revealed a total width of 30ft c! highly payable ore and 9ft of milling ore, as against 20ift in No. 5 level. Such : cheerful ; facts i and figures, being; official, afford pleasant food for reflection. to 'those , shareholders who; arc -in' danger of becoming cross-eyed in ) their- anxiety to f .follow both the developments-at the mine and the market movements of the stock at the sslMiS time.
