The State Legislative Assembly has referred to the Parliamentary Public Works Committee three alternative schemes, submitted by the Minister for Public Works (Mr. Griffith) for linking the city with North Sydney. and the great population ot the north side of the harbour :— . Cost. £ (1) Subway under the harbour ... 1.338.000 (3) Bridge across the harbour ... 1.992.000 (3) State ferry steamer service ... 108,000

At present Sydney is linked with • North Sydney by privately-owned ferry services. Both the larger schemes (bridge and subway) would take years to complete, and the Labour Government professedly advocates the State ferry service as a temporary expedient to relieve congestion in the meantime. It argues that this congestion, in conditions under which dey and the groat population of the north side of the harbour.
