PERSONAL ITEMS.
The : Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) is at present in Taranaki. He returns to Wellington to-morrow.
. Major-General Godley (Commander of the Forces)* was a paseenger for Wellington by the Main Trunk express last evening.
Mr Leo. Myers has returned from Rotorua, where ho had been recuperating after an attack of influenza, Mr. Myers is much improved in health.
• Mr. W. F. Massey (Leader of the Opportion) if. at present visiting his electorate. Last evening he addressed a large meeting at Waiuku.
The following appointments are gazetted : —Messrs. H. L. P. Dyett, D. Nelson, and A. F. Waters, assistant surveyors in the Denartment of Lands ; Mr. H. T. McCarrb'l'l. chief draughtsman in the head office of the Department of Lands : Mr. C. E. Armstrong, district engineer in the Public Works Department.
Mr. J- Hammond, the aviator, who has been unfortunate enough to suffer a severe illness since his arrival in New Zealand, is now quite recovered. With Mrs. Hammond he left Wellington for Sydney, en route to England and Europe, by the Moeraki last week.
Mr. John Evans, 85 years of age, died at his residence. Cabbage Bay,, early yesterday (telegraphs our Coromaiidel correspondent).' The deceased was a Welshman, and came out to New Zealand over 50 years ago", and almost immediately after landing in Auckland decided to make his borne at Cabbage Bay, where he had redded ever since. In the early days he went through many hardships, and was ,noted, for his hospitality to travellers. The deceased leaves a widow and six sons and daughters, and a number of "grandchildren.
