THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. [BT TELEGRA.H.— ASSOCIATION.] Dr/NEDiN, Saturday. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church decided this morning to invite Mr. Lanchu, Chinese Consul, upon his visit to Dunedin on Monday, to attend the sitting of the Assembly and give an address. Mr. Albert Wright, of Knox College and of the .Assembly Theological Hall, has been appointed by the Victorian Presbyterian Church to the mission in Korea. There was considerable discussion about a proposition to give the Maori mission the power to confer with the board of properties with reference to the possible disposal of the Maori mission farm of 200 acres at Manama in order to develop a boys' school. The proposal was agreed to. The gift of Mr. Hugh Campbell of a site for a Presbyterian ladies' college at Havelock North was accepted, subject to a variation of conditions that the building must bo commenced in twelve months. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Presbyterian branch of the laymen's missionary movement was held to-night. Tho annual report stated that branches were in existence in the presbyteries of Dunedin, Christchusrch, Wellington, Clutha, Wanganui, and Taranaki. _ In the presbyteries of Hawke's Bay, Gisborne, Falmerston North, and Oamaru congregational branches had been formed. The movement had been very active in Christchurch. On the motion of Mr. J. Mitchell (Christchurch), seconded by Mr. J. Craig (Napier), the report was unanimously adopted. Mr. W. M. Hannay (Wellington) was elected president forthe ensuing year, and Mr. E. L. Paul (Wellington) secretary. It was decided to recommend the council to consider the difficulties of branches under no Presbyterian association, and to make provision for their representation on the council. An address on "'The Duty of Laymen to the Church" was delivered by Mr. Goss (Christchurch), and Mr. P. Mill, who has just been accepted by the Presbyterian Church for mission work, spoke on the student volunteer movement and its appeals to the Christian Church.
