SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S POOR START* By Telegraph,— Association.— (Received November 12, 7.25 p.m.) Adelaide, November 12. Thh match between the M.CC. team, captained by Warner, and the South Australian eleven, was resumed yesterday in glorious weather. Nearly 5000 people were present. The wicket was in perfect order. Warner (112) and Foster (34) faced Whitty and Crawford. Runs came at the rate of one per minute. Foster began quietly, but when settled down he scored rapidly with charming wristy strokes. With 50 more runs on the board, Rees and Stirling relieved Whitty and Crawford. The rate of scoring increased, and 400 were up in, 336 minutes. When in. th eighties Foster was missed three times, at 80 off a skier, behind the wicket-keeper, which Roes misjudged, at 82, at long-on, by Mayne, and at 87, at square-leg, by Down. Warner made 151, and was then bowled by Backman. He played an extremely sound, watchful game, and hit 12 fours 435—5—151. Foster, when at 99, should been run out.. He got his century in 107 minutes. Crawford and Whitty resumed bowling, Foster again dashing at the bowling, When at? 131 he skied a ball from Whitty to midon/but Cr.iwford lost it in the sunlight. Douglas was bowled at 495, after batting for 50 minutes. >With the score at 508, Foster was bowled. He hit with great wrist-power, and made 13 fours, but he was lucky. He batted for 162 minutes. At 525, Woolley was smartly caught at short-leg. Seven runs later Vine was caught at point. Strudwick played a short, lively innings, and was then caught at raid-off. The innings lasted 463 minutes: . Mayne and Stirling opened South Australia's first innings, facing the bowling of Foster and Barnes. With two runs on the board, Stirling was run out, through. a smart return by Hobbs. One run later Foster bowled Mayne with a swerver. At 21, Barnes bowled S. Hill. Crawford was the next in. The scoring was quiet. In the forties Douglas replaced Foster. The first 50 occupied an hour. Runs I came steadily. Vine relieved Barnes ;at 75. With the score unaltered, Crawford was run out in trving to steal a run. C- Hill, batting soundly, - and Down played out time.
