The anti -militarist conference this moming resolved to send telegrams to branches urging them to call indignation meetings to protest against Major-General Godley's jction in stopping the distribution of peace literature at , the' Chrlstehurch Agricultural V- J •Show. It -was also decided to telegraph to • Sir v Joseph Ward protesting against ; Major-General Godley's action, and asking under what authority Major-General Godic/ acted. ;■'' i-«■'T ■. '■:»' *" *" A public meeting in the Town Hall to- * night, called by , the anti-militarists, was ' 'very, rowdy, the speakers being given a ...-very bad .time.. There were frequent interruptions. Mr. R. B. Ross moved a motion to the effect that the meeting disapproved of the conscriptive Defence Act, jjij demanded its immediate repeal. An amendment moved by Mr. S. A. Atkinson, expressing the opinion that compulsory military training was essential for the defence of New Zealand, was put to the meeting and carried, the gathering closing -with the singing of the National Anthem. .
