Mr. Bates's summary and forecast are as follow:—A westerly storm area still controls tee weather conditions, and heavy thunderstorms occurred in parts of the North Island last nights Snow has fallen on the higher levels and hail has also been reported in the South and also on tho vest coast and in some other parts. Tho barometer has fallen everywhere and is very low in tho South. Tho present indications are for high south-westerly winds generally, and colder weather and rain i* probable in most parts of the country. Tho barometer will probably rise shortly everywhere.
