RULE OF ROAD.

Sir. —1 quite agree with all the remarks in Elsie V. Hoycs's letter in your issue of October 17. I would also like to. suggest, as driving is becoming more difficult, and dangerous every day, that the footpaths be 'curtailed. The suburban authorities make a great mistake in having such wide footpaths. Their ■excuse is that they have less width of road to keep in repair. Wide footpaths are not. required in suburban roads where trams run, as the people never walk now. Footpaths wide enough for. four a-breast. to walk are quite sufficient. The roads are too narrow . for _ driving. If a horse becomes restive or shies, there is no room to get out of the way, which is the cause of so many accidents. Most of our councillors and road board representatives have never ridden or driven a horse. A full yard could be taken off some of our footpaths. Cabdkiver.
