The Southern tour of the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association is taking concrete form, the secretary (Mr. A. M. Bryden) having submitted the proposed itinerary to the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association. This body vvj.l meet at Duiiedin to-morrow to discuss the arrangements. The Auckland Proyincifiil Association is grateful to the officials, of •.no New Zealand and Northern Bowling .Association for the assistance given 111 making the tour possible. The party will consist of a number of players up to eipt teams. CARLTON CLUB'S "AT HOME." The members of the Carlton Bowling Club were " At Home" to their friends and a number of visiting howlers on Saturday, when the season was formally declared open. Mr. F. E. >.'. Giiudin (president) declared the greens open for play, after which Mrs. Uaudin threw the first jack. A match was played, president's v. vice-presidents' teams, the latter proving the victors. 'Hie opening of the Dominion Road green was celebrated in happy circumstances on Saturday afternoon, when an "At Home" was held to mark the occasion. He mentioned that the prospects for the ensuing season were very bright, the club having gained upwards of 20 new member:-, while the green was in first-class conditio, rivalling those of the older clubs in and out of the city. He referred in feeling terms to the death of Mrs. W. E. Young, wife of one of the members. th« club's flag being flown at half-mast as a mark of respect. Mr. Gordon also took the opportunity of thanking the ladies for the assistance they had given in providing <v?a during the year. SELWY.N CLUB. About 12 months ago a number of bowling enthusiasts conceived the idea.of r.g a bowling green on the site t'jwn whica the late Bishop Selwyn's old Maori church, St. Barnabas, stood for considerably more than half-a-century, at St. Barn abac's Point, Sclwyn Terrace, Parnell. The green is now completed, and a number met on Thursday night last and formed themselves into a club, to be called the Selwyn Bowling Club. The club is starting with a membership of about 30. The Bishop of Auckland has been asked to become patron, and the following officers were appointed President, Mr. D. W. Duthie: vice-presidents, the Mayor of Parnell and Messrs. S. Hesketh. K. ,T. Prendergast. and W. Culpan; secretary and treasurer.* Mr. P. Carr: committee, Messrs. Atkin. Scott. Spiccr, and W. S. Whitley. The formal opening will take "lace next Saturday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock.
