HOSPITAL BOARD.
THE MILK SUPPLY. SOME STATEMENTS RESENTED. A meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held last evening. Present: Messrs. P. M. Mackay (chairman), F. J. H. Ellisdon, M. J. Coyle, J. Jenkin, P. J. Nerheny, E. H. Potter, H. Schofield, J. S. Dickson, and F. Dye. Ambury, Limited, wrote in regard to statements made at the Hospital Board meeting on ober 19, commenting on the milk supply to the hospital. They stated that these were not complimentary to their company. They regarded the statements made public of great importance to the hospital, as well as to their company, and felt that they could not let the matter pass without some explanation from the Board. Mr. Ambury .waited on the Board and asked for specific information as to any faults that had been found with the milk supplied by his firm. The Chairman said he could not make a statement at present, because Dr. Dudley, who had raised the question, was not present. He suggested that the matter should be referred to the next meeting of the Board in committee.
The suggestion was agreed to. The Otago Board wrote drawing attention to the following motion, which had been passed at its last meeting:—"That the attention of the Government be drawn to the urgent necessity of an amount being placed upon the Estimates to cope with the eradication of consumption." It was decided to discuss this matter at a special meeting. The Finance Committee reported that the first instalment of the new loan, amounting to £15,000, had been advanced to the Board. The amount of the Gambles bequest, £740, had been placed to tha credit of the Board fund account, to meet the expenditure of the new buildings at the Costley Home. Tenders for the supply of furniture at the nurses' home would be called at an early date. A letter was received from the Epsom Road Board in regard to a house occupied by two families in Bracken Avenue, enclosing notification from the Health Department to the effect that the existing conditions did not make a breach of the Board's by-laws. The secretary of the Waitemata Chamber of Commerce, wrote drawing the Board's attention to a "site on the East Coast Road, near the trig, station, as being suitable for a hospital. The letter was received.
The recommendations of the Medical Committee in regard to the grading oi nurses were adopted.
