MOUNT ROSKILL SCHOOL : COMMITTEE. The Mount Roskill School Committed held a meeting in the school on Moaday night, all the members being present.' lV\ was decided to write to Mr. Trayes, head- ' master, and also to Miss Robinson, ex- • pressing the committee's gratification on receiving the inspector's report on. the working of the school. This showed that the school had mad© great progress lately.; Ilio Works Committee reported that the " school garden had been fenced off from the % football ground, and dug, and was How mostly planted, the boys and girfe taking great interest in the garden. . The grounds : had been planted with a number of shelter and other trees. The master had mads V great changes inside tho school. Pot plants and pictures in great numbers now ; took the place of what U3ed to be bare walls. The chairman (Mr. Peet) reported that the school was now full, and it would be necessary to apply to the Board early next year to enlarge the school.

GREY "LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. The usual meeting of the Grey Lynn Borough Council was held on Monday night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. W. f£ Murray), and Messrs. ' C" Nor grove, W, Donald, G. Bttildon, J. A. Warnock, OiM J. Garland, T. L. Thompson, J. W. Tattersfield. and F. Brinsden. Referring to' the requisite number of votes not having been recorded at the recent poll to de-; v . Clare Grey Lynn a fire district, Mr. Gar-,; land said it was : absolutely necessary the borough should be provided with more '/$. adequate fire extinguishing appliances," and he would give notice early. in the coming year that the ratepayers be afforded an opportunity to vote upon the question of., the borough joining Auckland City. The Hon. Geo. Fowlde reported that he feared it would be impossible this session to get an amendment inserted in the Rating Bill to enable rates to be imposed on gas mains j and tramway rails within th© borough. The Mayor made an appeal for assistance for the Porteous family, who suffered severe loss by the recent fire in Peel-street. Ho explained that there was no connection : ' between this family and another of the same name, the members of which had suffer*! •' so sadly from a fire in Ponsonby Road" - some month* ago. The family for whom' v he was appealing had six children, ; only one of whom, was earning anything, white the youngest was a baby in arms.
