H.M.S. ORION'S TRIALS. THE SECONDARY GUNS. " London, October 11. It has been discovered that the firing of the broadsides of H.M.S. Orion's 13£ in guns during the recent trials weakened the mountings of the 4in guns, which had been placed near the barbettes on which the large guns are mounted. LARGEST BATTLESHIP AFLOAT. H.M.S. Orion, the largest battleship afloat, which, was launched in August, 1910, has a displacement of 23,500 tons .and a speed of 21 knots. One of the features of the new ship is that all the five barbettes in which her 10 13iin guns are mounted are on the centre line, three forward of the superstructure and two aft. The second barbette forward and the inner barbette aft .are superimposed so as to fire over the top of the outer barbettes. This gives a broadside of ten guns similar to the Neptune class (which are arranged with the amidship barbettes en echelon), but reduces the ahead and astern fire somewhat. In addition to the main armament, the Orion has a secondary armament of 20 4in guns, and it is the mounting of these that have been affected. The Orion also has a larger and more deadly torpedo than any yet mounted in a warship. This is a 21in weapon, with a range of 7000 yards at a speed of 40 knots. The Orion has three submerged tubes for discharging her great torpedoes. The navy has hitherto used an 18in torpedo. Critics, in comparing the armament of the Orion with that of the Dreadnought, have declared that it makes the latter second-class. ,\
