ENTERTAINMENTS.

"THE WOMAN IN THE CASE." Another large audience last night witnessed the production of "The Woman in the Case" a.t His Majesty's Theatre. "The Woman in the Case" will be repeated to-night and for the remainder of the present week. AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS 1 SOCIETY. A very satisfactory number of entries have been received for the literature and drawing sections of the society's forthcoming festival, exceeding those received last year. The inquiries for entry forms from intending competitors are coming in each mail, and there is every indication that this year all the various classes in the musical and elocution sections will receive liberal patronage from students from all parts of the Dominion. Each class on the syllabus appears to interest many com"petitors, but of course the exceptional prizes offered for the piano recital, church choirs, and champion elocutionists from the primary schools are responsible for numerous inquiries and entries from many towns and districts outside the Auckland province. All intending competitors will be specially interested in the advertisement which appears in another column of this issue, and they will do well to note that entries close on Saturday, October 28.

THE MISSIONS TO SEAMEN. A most enjoyable concert was given at the Seamen's Institute last evening, when the following ladies and gentlemen took Eart :—Mrs. Angus, Misses Shortridge, Osa Taylor and Gladys Wbyte, and Messrs. Regd. Aickin, Sanford, Parker and Bertram Angus. - As the mission piano had not turned up, one was very generously lent by Mr. Abbott, proprietor of the Waverley Hotel. A number of willing seamen soon moved it to the mission. The missioner (Mr. Arthur P. Cowie) thanked the. performers on behalf of the seamen. A successful evening was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem.

SKATING RINKS. The Prince's Rink was well patronised by skaters yesterday. A mask and domino carnival will be held at the Royal Rink to-morrow night.
