WATER POWER .
DEVELOPMENT BY THE STATE.
The development of the water power in the Dominion for the supply of < electrical power, Sir John Findlay said last night, would be of ; enormous advantage to New Zealand. 'He believed in the State development of this power as one of the great branches .of the work falling under the heading of progressive Liberalism. What had chiefly been the making of many great industries had been tt>.e monopoly of-power, .in that great business organisations had been able to put down plant on a magnitude and ,of an efficiency that those who, controlled lass capital cou.la "not approach." The State could set up a f oi' such magnitude, and enable the people* to obtain, the power needed for those businesses without the disadvantages of ,juch monopoly. "
