At a recent first night at one of the London theatres the programme contained this notice: " The management begs to state that anyone troubled with a firstnight cough will be supplied with jujubes on application." This was intended as a rebuke to some people who had been making a practice of coughing at first nights to bring failure to the play. At a special meeting of the Birmingham City Council, Mr. Jesse Collins, M.P., and the Right Hon. William Kenrick received the honorary freedom of the city in recognition of their long years of faithful service to the citizens*
