SIR J. FINDLAY'S CHOICE.
HAS FIVE SEATS IN MIND.
PARNELL PROBABLY ONE OF
THEM.
[BY telegraph.— special CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Friday. In a week or ten days Sir John Findlay will probably announce his selection of the district which' will be given an opportunity of returning him to a seat in the House of Representatives. So far he has not decided where he will make his appeal to the electors, but, according to a statement he made this morning, he has reduced the. possibilities to five. In this he differs from the Hon. T. McKenzie, who, instead of fighting shy of 71 districts, announces his readiness to stand in any electorate which desires his services. . The Attorney-General savs that three of the seats which he has in mind are in the North Island, and two in the South Island. One of them is-a city seat. If he has any preference/it is for a district in the North Island.
Discussing the position this evening, Sir John Findlay said he could not give any more definite information until the matter had developed further. When his attention was directed to a statement by the'Hawera Star that he had definitely decided to stand for the Egmont electorate, Sir John said the report was incorrect.
It is virtually certain that the city seat referred to is Parnell, from which it is understood Mr. Lawn,- is to* be called to the Legislative Council after the general election.
