TWO SACKS OF FLOUR.
A LIGHT LIFT AND A HEAVY ON& [FEO3C OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] San- Francisco, August 25. Thousands of men are now being placed on the San Francisco city pay roll as labourers. In the employment of these labourers a cunning subterfuge is reported to in order to ensure that none but men who favour the party in power, headed by Mayor McCarthy, are accepted. Applicants are required to lift a sack of flour. . McGarthyites are taken into a room containing a sack weighing 901b, and of course have no difficulty in lifting ,it from the floor. But when the wrong man applies for, a job he is shown a sack containing 1501b and told to lift it to his shoulder. Several men have been ruptured trying to do it. Such is the way politics in , San Francisco are conducted.
