FRENCH BARQUE ASHORE:
A SEAMAN DROWNED.
By Telegraph. Association,— (Received September 5, 12.45 a.m.) • • , Sydney, September 4. News has been received from Noumea that the French barque Rochambeau, laden with coal, went ashore on the Maine Reefs, off the coast of New Caledonia, on August 31. -
The vessel lies in a critical position, and ie full of water. One seaman was drowned. The remainder of the crew were rescued by ,the .cruiser Kersaint.. ;
