HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET

CABLEGRAM.

*£*he High Commissioner's cablegram, Sated London, September 2, is as follows "(quotations unless otherwise specified , are average market prices on spot) :—

Mutton: The market is quiet and unfavourably affected by largo arrivals and .low prices of chilled beef. Canterbury, 3Jd; North Island, 3|d. Lamb : The market is steady, with good demand for all lamb. Stock moderate. Canterbury, s|d; other than Canterbury, 6d.

Beef : The market is vei-y dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large, and are selling at hinds 3|d, fores 3^d.

Butter: The market is quieter. Supplies that were not obtainable here on account of the strike are now obtainable. Australian, 120s; Danish, 1325; Siberian, 116s.

Cheese: The market is firm at an advance. New Zealand, 665. Supplies of New Zealand cheese are nearly exhausted. Prospects for next season are encouraging- . Hemp : The market continues dull. New Zealand, good fair, on spot, per ton £19 10s; fair grade, £19 fair current Manila, $20; forward .shipment of New Zealand good fair, £20; fair grade, £19: fair current Manila, £20. The output from Manila for the week was 15,000 bales.

Kauri Gum : Dark brown selected, rescraped, £6 to £8 7s 6d; dark brown, three-quarter scraped, 80s to 955; dark brown chips, drossy, 55s to 455; rescraped pale, amber, £10 to £12; threequarter pale, scraped, £8 to £9 diggers' chips, good. 90s to £6 7s 6d. Wool : The market is strong for merinos and fine crossbreds of all grades, and a marked shade weaker for coarse erossbreds of all grades.

NORTHERN BOOT COMPANY.

ANOTHER GOOD YEAR.

The 30th annual meeting of shareholders in the Northern Boot and Shoe Manufac-

luring Company, Limited, was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. Geo. Winstone, chairman of directors, presided. The annual report of the manager (Mr. T. Hodgson) shows a net profit of £1193 5s 7d, which, together with the amount brought forward from last year's balance at credit of profit and loss account, gave a total of £4954 lis sd. The directors recommended the payment of a dividend at the rate of seven per cent, per annum on the paid-up capital, which, together with, the directors' honoraria, would total £846 16s •V 7d, leaving a balance of £346 9s to be carried to the credit of profit and loss account, which would then total £4087 14s lOd to credit. Ten per cent, has been written off the plant and furniture accounts for depreciation. The liabilities of the company totalled £7808 18s Id, and assets £23,591 Is 6d. 4 On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. R. C. Carr, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. Sir. C. B. Stone was re-elected to the directorate, and Mr. E. L. Jonas was reappointed auditor. The dividend was duly declared, and a ■ vote of thanks moved by Mr. A. E. Syers, and seconded by Mr. A. E. Young, was passed to the directors, also to the company's staff, and acknowledged by Mr. .Winstone and Mr. Hodgson.
