HAWKERS FAIL TO MOVE ON. A .WARNING FROM THE BENCH. A batch of eight hankers appeared before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., charged with remaining stationary longer than was necessary for transacting business. 'The traffic inspector (Mr. Lindsay) said fines did not seem to be any deterrent, and he asked for a substantial fine, as this sort of thing was getting far too - prevalent. Richard Clark Nichols, Ernest Roper, Edward J. Cluthans, Victor Flood, Henry Barris, Albert Richard, Waterhouse, Robert Marshall, and Charles Abrahams were then each fined 10s and costs, Mr. Cutten remarking, that if they were not careful they would lose their licenses. >' .VANISHED. A lad, Ivan Joseph Phillip Walker, who was found in a destitute condition by the police, and assisted, was said to have disappeared from the Salvation Army Refuge. The Sub-Inspector, in asking that the charge of being idle and disorderly, etc.. be struck out, said that he had received a sum of money from the boy's relatives, but the lad was not to-be found. DRUNKENNESS. "Give me one more chance, Your Worship," pleaded John Casey, when, charged with being drunk, and with a breach of his prohibition order. "Two pounds or seven days for the breach," was the magistrate's quick decision. On the other charge, accused was convicted and discharged . Alfred Murphy, on a charge oi drunkenness, was fined 10s, and prohibited for 12 months. William Edward Boyes, who appeared on a similar charge, and who' had been already receiving medical treatment, was allowed to go on payment of medical expenses. -Three first offenders were fined ss. ' Denis Tracey, for four breaches of his prohibition order, was fined £2, in default seven days. MISCELLANEOUS. For being disorderly whilst drunk, John Poison was fined 10s. Accused had entered a shop in a drunken condition, and when ordered to leave had refused. Emanuel Rasmunui was fined 5s and costs for riding a bicycle on the footpath. Leaving a ferry boat whilst in motion cost Sainty Hanson 5s and costs. ■ Several cases were heard by Messrs. G. W. Andrews and C. Sturges, J.P.'s. For leaving his cart longer than necessary for unloading, William Barrett was fined 5s and costs. ' -' Albert Sylvado was sent to gaol for three months, with hard labour, for indecency.- --- ■
