WIN FOR TUB SOUTHERNERS.

Wellington-, Thursday. Tub representative lacrosse match, Wellington V. Auckland, was played ■,( the Basin Reserve yesterday. The turf was rather hoavy for a good exhibition, hut nevertheless some splendid passing took place on both sides. Auckland were the first to score, but Wellington shortly a Tierwards equalised matters and play was fairlv even for some time, the Wellington men going perilously near to scoring on several occasions. As the result of some fine combined play between .Meyer, Faina, and Levdon, the home team eventually managed to beat the visitors' goalkeeper, who was'plaving brilliantly. Auckland came away shortly afterwards, and some pretty passing culminated in Philson beating the' Wellington defence and scoring a fine goal. Tin.' teams changed over for quarter time with the score, two all, and the game at that stage promised to be very close. Early in the second quarter Wellington scored two more goals, each being the result of splen did passing. The Auckland men seemed to tire at. this stage, but nevertheless they managed to notch another goal. Wellington subsequently added three more goals, and at. half-time the scores stood: Wellington, 7 : Auckland, 3.

Jn the last half of the game Wellington showed themselves a much superior team to their opponents, and notched five goals against one. Those responsible for Wellington's score were: —Meyer, (Jrant, l'anin, Ley don, and Ryder, and for Auckland l'hilson, Swales, and Walton found tin; net.

For Auckland tho goalkeeper, Edwards, played a splendid game, and his captain, Stewart, was perhaps the best man on the side. The Walters brothers, I'hilson, I'. .Brown, 8. Swales nro also deserving of mention. There was a fair attendance of the public, amongst whom was Sir James Catrolk
