A SEAMAN'S AGREEMENT.
FAILS TO JOIN A SHIP.
At the Police Court on Saturday morning a sturdily-built man, named John Harris, was charged before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., with having failed to join the barque Lindstol at Hokianga on April 21, after having signed an agreement to do so. Another man of the same name had also signed on to join the Lin'dstol, and his identily was mixed up with the accused, until tho la Iter's solicitor, Mr. A. ,T. Moody, throw light, on tho subject. The accused, it was stated, was anxious to join the boat, so that he might get. to Sydney, but ho missed (ho train to Onehunga, and so did not catch tho boat, at that port, which was to liavo taken him to Hokianga. .Mr. Moody contended that Harris made every effort, to fulfil t.he agreement, and that the case should be dismissed. Mr. Cutten said lie would givo his decision to-day.
IDLE AND DISORDERLY. John Broclcbank, who had been found sleeping in Albert Park on Friday night, pleaded not guilty to a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, and the information was dismissed. MISCELLANEOUS. Three first, offenders for drunkenness were each fined ss, and in two other cases tho inaeristrafo ordered bail to lie forfeited.
Alfred John Still, charged with desertion from 11.M.5. Encounter, was ordered to be put aboard one of His Majesty's ships. For using obscene language in Queenstreet on Friday a seaman named John Livingston Finlay was fined 20s, in default throe days. Cases in which John Alfred Bast in and George 11. Smith were charged with forgery and embezzlement respectively were adjourned.
