WATCHING THE TRAINING.
ELLERSLTE IN THE MORNING. Early yesterday morning a heavy white frost enshrouded the tracks at EUerslie, and the atmosphere was very cold. This was dissipated after breakfast by the sun, which shone cut brightly, and a largo amount of work was witnessed under the most pleasant of conditions. Tho grass track, which was fast, was most availed of, but a fair amount of uso was mado of the sand, which was in splendid order. Turbine was allotted a useful task, whilo Ins stable companion, Tattoo, galloped on the sand.
Duma, and Sphinx dashed over five furlongs in lm. 5 2-55., the former showing up best. Joe May was given useful exercise, and then negotiated tho water-jump successfully. Maxwell covered a circuit, sprinting merrily over the last five furlongs. >. Miss Explosion put in serviceable pacing over a distance.
Delegate was responsible for a smart" half-mile dash.
♦Solus sprinted four furlongs in 50 2-ss. Master William disposed of a circuit, tho last five furlongs in lm. 6s. his breastplate breaking, and the saddle slipping back over the concluding stages. Sea Elf was sprinted over half a mile in 50 3-ss.
Master Soult was given useful work, and came off the track without showing signs of tho lameness of last Thursday. Master Theory and Prince Soult sprinted smartly over a short journey. Ma mi re was given useful pacing. Weo Olga, with Ryan in tho saddle, was not over bustled in negotiating six furlongs. Mildura and Mavourneen galloped half a mile, tho former in 54 3-ss.
Frontino disposed of five furlongs in lm 6 l-ss.
Iloanga ran twice round at half-pace, moving freely. Regain, piloted by Deeley, ran five furlongs in lm. 7 4-ss. Advocate was given walking exercise. Waimangu was restricted to light work on tho sand.
Santa Rosa finished up tho last five furlongs of a serviceable run in lm. 6 4-ss. Pyralis cantered slowly, and carries an unsightly hock. Lady Patricia (J. Tinker) and a companion covered seven furlongs in lm. 365. Red Lupin sprinted briskly, hitting out well.
Miss Ada and Dinkum ran five furlongs in lm. 5 4-ss.
Virtue and a Euroclydon mare wore sprinted. Prince King brushed along smartly. Lord Possible, a chestnut visitor from the ii*iuth, moved freely in a working gallop. Blue Thread and Waercnga performed useful ti\sks. Reservoir was not asked to do anything out of tho ordinary, and was restricted to the lightest of exercise.
Manurero had the call over Misero Ouvert, running half a milo in 50 3-ss. Epsom Lass, as usual, performed nicely on the track, beating a companion and covering five furlongs in lm. ss. Whrjkawcira skipped over Itwo tiurdle.i liko a gazelle, and then cantered on tho sand. The visitor is a pretty jumper. Glad Tidings put in a useful sprint. Sir Walter and Welcome News dashed over three furlongs in 38 4-ss. Paisano was only asked to perform easy work, but looks well. Spectro and Houhora sprinted four furlongs on the grass in 53 2-ss. Cyncsuro ran a useful six furlongs. Antarctic (T. Scott) traversed a couple of rounds on the sand at half pace. Zinnia galloped freely in her task, covering four furlongs in bis. Blue Mount and Blue Mountain were associated in a smart spin once round tho schooling hurdles, going well. Bluo Mount proved himself to bo very quick at his fences, jumping without fault. Kremlin and Sabine negotiated seven fences without mishap, although the latter rapped tho sixth obstacle. The two-year-old All worthy was sprinted, with Whittaker up. Pat, a gelding by Kegel, who is engaged in the Great Northern Hurdles, was schooled by J. Dcerey, conducting himself nicely. Monolino and another youngster, the ObligadoGuinevre colt, were sprinted. (Paisley and Bully gallopod a circuit in lm. 58 4-55., the latter going best. Butter was allotted useful work.
Castle Blaney and Scotch were companions over seven furlongs, tho last half-milo of which occupied i 52 4-ss. Old Bachelor, tho gray, covered a circuit at three-quarter pace. Worcester was worked with a companion, moving woll. .lack Delaval (Deoley) ran four furlongs briskly. A pony, by Gilnookio, was sprinted by Chitham.
Poictiers was indulged in a smart spin, going attractively. N. Cunningham's pair, Captain Soult and Lucille, were apportioned serviceable tasks. Mangu and Tiri were despatched on a schooling errand, and their crude efforts at the first obstacle vastly amused tho touts. At the second feneo Mangu struck heavily, and dislodged his rider, Eriokson, who was knocked out for some minutes, but recovered after being carried off the track. Grenadier, with lx>th forelegs banndaged, was lightly exercised. Sir Artcgal covered a round at, half pace. Paritufu (R. Percival) and Okaihau (Cowan) set out for a round over tho steeplechase course. I'aritutu ran down tho sod wall, fluked over the first fence of the stand double, and nearly camo down at the second, Percival making a splendid recovery, and getting back into the saddle. The stono wall saw Paritutu just scramble over, but at the old water jump ho refused, and failed to follow Okaihau, who was jumped very proficiently. At the second attempt Pantutu got over, and from this 011 his display was sound, for he negotiated the fenoes 011 tho hill, and tho stone wall at tho head of the straight like a tradesman, finishing up over the sod wall, stand double, and stono wall in much improved form. Okaihau was really out. to give the Taranaki representative a " load over," and ho carried out his mission well.
Rebel was not asked to jump, but was sent along with J. Conquest in the saddle. Ilunakaha (J. Deerev) cantered once round, and then jumped tho sod wall, stand double, and stono wall, t.ho latter cleverly, after which he completed another circuit. Tui Kitua traversed a circuit, with Master Phaeton, after which the latter lccnt on for another round.
Rangitatua, one of F. Ton go's string, was exercised.
