FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE.

TABLEAU THAT WAS OMITTED.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.— (Received May 23, 11.50 p.m.)

London, May 23. After a prolonged discussion the representation of the Battle of Chateauguay (Quebec), which was withdrawn from the Canadian pageant at the Festival of Empire, for fear of wounding American suscpptibilities, has been reincluded.

The battle of Chateauguay was fought in 1813, during the Second American War, between the United States troops, 7000 strong, under General Hampton, and a force of Canadian militia, far inferior in numbers, who were strongly posted near Chateauguay, 16 miles south-west of Montreal. The Americans attempted to storm tho Canadian lines, but the Canadians made a most gallant defence, and repulsed them with heavy loss.
