RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURE.

SAME LEVY AS LAST YEAR.

| Tnk Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met last, evening. , There wera present : —Messrs. P. M. Mackay (chairI man), F. J. 11. Ellisdon, M. J. V.'oyle, ,J. S. Dickson, .1. Jenkin, E. It. Potter. J. C!. Rutherfcrd, F. Dye, If. Schofield, and I Dr. Guinness. i A statement of the receipt and the. ex* penditure for the year 1910-11 was submitted. It showed that the expenditure* had been £47.792 6s 9d, and the receipt.* £46.953 19s Bd, the bank overdraft at March 31 having been £358 7s Id. Tito fees in connection with the district hospital had amounted to £3531 17s 9d, and endowments had produced rents totalling I £2630 7 2d. I The fees and recoveries in connection with the Costlev Hume had been £253 ! 19s 3d, pigs and vegetables had realised | £675 9s 6ii, and the net amount received ! from inmates' pensions had been £2228 J 13s. Local bodies' contributions amounted 1 to £14,556 14s 2d, and State subsidies to i £15,760 Cw 6d, while £1.281 10s 4d had, I been received from bequests. The total cost of the administration and! | the maintenance of the district hospital 1 had been £19.935 10s Id, of which mainten- ! ance had absorbed £4626 12s 9d, thu ! surgery and dispensary, £1315 9s lid; j domestic and establishment. expenses, | £6479 16s 6d ; salaries and wage*, £6399 I Is 7d ; and administration, £614 9a 4d. The total capital expenditure was £4487 17s 7d, of which £4287 2s 8d had beouf upon buildings. The expenditure on other institutions was as follows —Alexandra. Home. £450 16s 9d; Costley Home, £8164 5s sd, in. eluding £759 8s _4d on buildings; charitable aid, £6661 15s 6d ; and dental hospita!, £379 3s 3d. The cost of administration of the Board's affairs -was £535 143 | Bd. The only other important item of ex- | penditure was £1125. interest for ono ! quarter on £25,000 loan.

The Rates for 1911. The Finance Committee proposes that the levies for contributions by local bodies should, be at the rate of two-thirteenths, of a penny in tho pound on the capital value of ratable property in the hospital district. Although tho proposed rate was tho same as last year, it would realise a larger; sum on account of increased valuations, but the estimates had increased by a similar amount-. A resolution to cany the proposal into effect was carried, it stated that tho estimated cost of the maintenance of the Board's institutions and of charitable aid! for the year was £43.541 ss.

The Costley Home. The committee of the Costley Home wag authorised to purchase two rolls for the mangle at the laundry, at a cost of £150., The resignation of Mr. W. J. Bell from the post of clerk and storekeeper was accepted, and the committee was instructed to fill the vacancy. Ten tenders were received for the erec-< tion of quarters for married couples whr> are inmates of the Costley Home. Thatf of W. E. Hutchison, of £2465, was ac-i cepted, and it was decided that the carpenter at the general hospital should act as clerk of works in the supervision of tlioj contract. Miscellaneous. The Hospital Committee was authorised to take the necessary steps to remedy the condition of the setting of the boiler at» the hospital, the engineer having reported] that the foundation and brickwork wero in a serious condition, and that, there was a risk that the heating arrangements would be disorganised. ■ It was decided that tenders should bo invited for supplies for the year for this Board's institutions. The chairman, the hospital secretary, and Mr. Dickson wero appointed to revise the schedule of, drapi erv, and the secretary was asked to sub-, mit a report at the next meeting upon the manner in which the contracts for supplies to the hospital and to the CostlejJ, Home had been fulfilled.

The district health officer wrote explaining the arrangements made with the City Council by which its sanitary staff had 1 undertaken the work of disinfection andthe investigation of infectious disease in.; the city, while two inspectors had be civ appointed to deal with the rest of the hospital district. The cost of the work would be borne by the Board, and in order to; secure the Government subsidy all the salaries should be paid by the Board. The letter was received. * , The Charitable Aid Committee reported, that during the fortnight ended May 18 seven new cases and 37 old cases had been-; dealt with. , Accounts for £3306 13s 4d were passed! for payment. The Finance Committee reported that there was a debit balance at' May 19 of £3366 13s 3d.
