HELD FOR RANSOM.
BOYS KIDNAPPED BY BANDITS.
The last files from Hongkong state that during the latter part of .last year a number of robbers attacked the Chow Ghuen village, in the Nam Hoi district. They took away eight, boys, for whom a ransom was demanded. The parents wore comparatively poor, and were unable to raise the 10,000 dollars demanded on March 29. The mutilated body of one of the lads was found outside the village, and attached to the body was a note to the effect that as the money was not forthcoming the boy had been killed. Subsequently a letter was delivered to the father of one of the captives, stating that one b.oy had been purposely slain, that another had died of grief, and that, the ransom for the remaining six had been raised to 50,000 dollars.
In the meantime the sum of 10,000 dollars has been offered for tho release of the boys, but the offer has been refused.
