POLICE COURT NEWS.
A short sitting of the Police Court yesterday was presided over by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M. An elderly man named Michael Jordan, supposed that he was drunk on Tuesday night, but did not remember much about the evening. He was fined 10s, or 48 hours. y [[ , ,- . / , * Mary Burtenshaw, who has often filled the prisoner's box, and Fred Hopgood, who made his second appearance at the Court, were each fined 10s, or 48 hours. James Bertie has been indulging freely of late, and as he has been before the Court on four occasions during the past six months, he was fined £2, or seven days. A first offender was fined ss, or 24 hours. A middle-aged man named Henry Fairman, charged with entering licensed premises and procuring liquor while prohibited, said he would "Give it best" if given a. chance, and His Worship, in inflicting a fine of £2, or seven days, told Fairman that his next appearance at the Court would signalise his departure for Roto Roa Island, a place where drunkards are reformed.
