QUEEN-STREET ENDOWMENT.
A REPRESENTATIVE CONFERENCE A meetis'O .of the conference of representatives of educational bodies was held at the office of the Education Board yesterday afternoon to further consider the ) question of the administration of the reveI nues of the old Supremo Court site endowI ment for educational purposes. The fol- [ lowing gentlemen were present:—Mr. C. J. Parr (chairman) and Mr. G. ■W. Murray (representing th© Education < Board), Dr. McDowell (representing ,the University College Council), Professor F. D. Brown and the Hon. J. A. Tele {represeating the Board of Governors of the Auckland Grammar School), Mr. H. Lowe (chairman of the Board of Governors of the Thames High School), and Mr. A. H. ;■ Mason (representing the Board of Governors of the Whangarei High School). 'A motion, proposed by Mr. Murray, " That a portion of the funds be allocated towards the completion and equipment of tho Seddon Memorial Technical College," was negatived, some of the members of the conference considering that the Tech- ! nical College provided in the main for the education for those living in the city and ! suburbs of Auckland only, and did not : provide for country districts. , After some discussion, it was resolved, 1 m the motion of Mr. Parr, that the mem- ; bers of the conference wait on the : Minis- '' ter for 5 Education as early as convenient, | with the object of making representations ; to him on the subject of the recommendations of the conference, as to the allocation of the funds arising from the reserve. i On the motion of the Hon. J. A. Tole, '< a vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Parr for presiding at the conference, and to the Education Board for allowing the conference to be held at their office. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mr. R. P. J. Ray, who acted as secretary to the conI ference-.. ■■ "V" t At the conference held a fortnight ago it | was considered that the capital value of the \ Queen-street endowment would give ample funds to provide for several educational purposes. A series of six resolutions were agreed to unanimously, including the following, as suitable objects to be benefited •by the fund:—An agricultural college, the erection of proper, buildings and the purchase of sites for other than primary school*, the provision of suitable boarding accommodation for scholars coming from the country to obtain higher education, for university college purposes, and upon secondary education at Whangarei, Thames, Hamilton, and other main country centres. The Conference will wait upon the Minister on the occasion of his next ; visit to Auckland, and lay all these, proposals before him.......
