NORTH SHORE WHARVES.
LIGHTING AT BAYS WATER.
A petition from Devonport residents, presented to the Harbour Board recently, requesting the Board to dredge a channel to Devonport Wharf, was reported upon by the Works Committeo to the Board yesterday. Tho committee recommended that the request, should be considered at a future meeting, and that in the meantimo the engineer should report upon the cost of tho work and the harbourmaster upon the feasibility of keeping the channel open, and that the -manager of the Devonport Ferry Company should bo present when the deputation is heard. The report was adopted. The Waitemata Chamber of Commerce wrote that tho drawbridge on the pontoon at Devonport was dangerous, and that difficulty was experienced in taking vehicles over. Tho Chamber asked that the landing should be made similar to that at Birkenhead. Tho matter was referred to tho Works Committee, the engineer to report upon the request to tho committee. The chairman of tho Board (Mr. A. J. Entrican) was authorised to deal with the question of installing a light upon the outer beacon of Bayswater channel, and of appointing a caretaker for the Bayswater Wharf.
